Martin Bullard is a classically trained musician and composer. Active in music since the age of 5, he started as a cathedral chorister and progressed to organist in several worldwide best-known cathedrals by the age of 12.
Obtaining a music scholarship to Seaford College in Sussex, he continued with his training, becoming proficient in several different instruments, but his love still remained the piano. At Exeter University he wrote and performed in revues, which also appeared on The Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
His music talent diversified to a variety of styles, including folk and jazz. Barnsley based band The Ward Brothers asked Martin to join them for the making of their debut album “The Madness of it all” in 1986, from which the single “Cross that bridge” was in the charts for 3 months.
In 1988 Smokie (“Living Next Door To Alice”) asked Martin to join and he has been the keyboard player ever since. His song writing has helped earn 14 Platinum and 16 gold albums.
Whilst living in Yorkshire, he wrote the theme music for the world famous Hannah Hauxwell, which featured in her many television series'. This theme is featured on his album "Senses and Impressions". From this album, the track ‘”Leaving Home” received a prestigious Unisong International Music Award in1999, as did “Sunrise” in 2000. In 2001 he achieved a first prize in this prestigious competition in the instrumental category for a track titled “Kenyan Sunrise”.
With the popularity of TV Soap “Emmerdale”, the producers decided it was time for one of their main characters, Kathy (Malandra Burrows) to launch her singing career. At this stage Martin was hired to arrange and record the music for her top 10 single.
From his home in the Scottish Highlands, where he has lived since 1994, Martin was commissioned to write the music and release an album for the Loch Ness Exhibition Centre in Drumnadrochit, this album being the highly acclaimed "Loch Ness Enigmas".
Fitting in with his busy touring and recording schedule with Smokie, Martin is also involved in writing and recording music for various TV and Screen productions, as well as helping young artists to succeed in the music business.
